Putting the Sea in Seattle
Seattle 2150 showcases, as the name suggests, a future version of Seattle that has been struck by the negative effects of climate change, including extremely poor air quality and rising sea levels. As the players progress through the world, they see what can happen to a city if we don't act now.
Green New Deal Inspiration
-(1) human activity is the dominant cause of observed climate change over the past century;
-(2) a changing climate is causing sea levels to rise and an increase in wildfires, severe storms, droughts, and other extreme weather events that threaten human life, healthy communities, and critical infrastructure;
-(3) global warming at or above 2 degrees Celsius beyond pre-industrialized levels will cause
(A) mass migration from the regions most affected by climate change;
Brainstorm and Process
-Seattle 2150 was at first going to be a horror-based game
-As the project evolved, we ended up taking things like color palettes and other inspiration from horror games without making it one
Seattle 2150 demonstrates a world in which the negative side effects of irreversible climate change, like poor air quality and rising sea levels, have taken place. This would lead to mass migration from areas most affected leaving entire cities abandoned and desolate. You, the player, wake up in Seattle, one of the abandoned cities, and make your way towards the Space Needle.
