Aequor Fashion
Kaia, Louise & Eliz
Our project is a wearable dress made from thrifted, recycled, and found materials, inspired by the ecosystems of the ocean to highlight its beauty. Through this creation, we aim to shine light on the pressing issue of environmental waste (particularly fast fashion and plastic pollution) threatening our oceans ecosystems. By merging sustainability with fashion, we seek to raise awareness and inspire tangible action toward ocean conservation.
- 92 MILLION TONS of textile waste is produced each year
- Average US consumer throws away 81.5 Ib of clothing every year
- The fashion industry is responsible for 20% global water waste
- 33 BILLION Ib of plastic enters the ocean every year
- An estimated 75 to 199 MILLION tons of plastic waste currently in the ocean
Next steps:
- Prototype and incorporate motors in both the tentacles and the skirt
- Add more tentacles
- Make more/better accesories
- Have a person model the dress
- Share the dress/story with a larger audience ex: social media, fashion show, news
