Today my partners and I got a lot done. We created a prototype of our music box with cardboard. W did not fit the box to scale, but that is our next step. We began creating the gears on Rhino and we put it in the laser cutter at the end of class. Anna and Nellda were working on the other inside parts with cardboard. Dr.Kolth helped me laser cut the gears but class ended right as we finished. Our next goal is to make another prototype to scale of how large we want the final product to look like. I am excited to make the larger scale modle. Dr.Kloth gave us lots of great advise and help during class.

Our schedule until Demo Day:

Today= Cut Sides

Monday= Glue

Wed= Battery Power and LED lights

Friday= Write simple program for Raspberry Pi

Tuesday= Mount the cell phone holder

Thursday= Presentation and portfolio

Today we cut the rest of our sides, which needed to be 5 Millimeters longer. We also pray painted the casing for the screen. We decdied on leaving the bottom of the box to stay open instead of glueing it so during Demo day we could access the battiers.

Our acrylic pieces came in today and we laser cut one side of our box. Next class we plan on cutting out every side. We finished 3D printing out iPhone dock pieces. Next step is to find some lights to put inside our box to make it look good.

Today everyone was in class. We soldered our Raspberry pie wires to our other battery pack. After the soldering we worked on 3D printing a iPhone holder to hook on the side of our box. We decided on keeping  the battery packs instead of using a electric wire. We might have 2-3 iPhone holders that we will 3D print that can ether charge, or enhance music sound coming from the phone. Our next goal will be to program our conversation pieces on the raspberry pie. We also decide that we will use a touch screen instead of the LED screen we have currently. In 3 hours our first iPhone holder will be printed. We also will create a new box out of the laser cutter soon and add some designed on the sides. We also need to 3D print holders for the raspberry pie and battery packs. We talked about making the box acrylic with a color pice on the inside so it glows when its working. We would need 6 pieces of acrylic with translucent colored pieces. On Friday we will look at colored acrylic pieces online.

Notes:

Keep film on when laser cutting

Amazon has colored acrylic pieces.

Make colored pieces smaller than clear pieces

Charging dock might not work by the end of the demo

Lowes will cut big acrylic pieces for us 12in by 12in

Laser cutter is 3 feet by 2 feet

Today our group again worked on laser cutting the box. We had more trouble working with Rhino and that problem took up the majority of our class today. We had to find a larger piece of cardboard in order to laser cut our design. We have set some goals for next class. Dr. Kloth gave us some ideas about using the 3D printer to put our battery pack and Raseberry Pie in.

Today in class Anna and I worked on creating a new cardboard box with Rhino. It took us a few times to create  the measurements small enough to fit in the laser cutter. Finally we made the dimensions of each side of the boxes, 18.3 cm. Next class we will laser cut the card board and fold and glue the sides. The screen is still powered up by the batteries and next class we will also work on connecting the raspberry pie to the screen. We had a lot of trouble finding the right measurements.

Todays class Nellda and I got a lot of work done with the circuits and LED screen. It was really awesome to see the batteries charge the LED screen to power it. We hooked up the raspberry to screen and batteries and we saw the screen light up and show some programs that the raspberry computer already had on it. Our next step is to laser cut the box to fit the screen inside. We started working with the laser cutter but ran out of time. We need to figure out a better design to put everything in. That will be our next challenge along with programing what we want on the raspberry. Dr.Kloth has help us tremulously with the wiring. We hopefully will make a few different kinds of boxes once we get one prototype done correct. We are very excited to get everything working in the next week or two.

Conversation Box

We changed our music box to a “conversation box”. This box will have an LD screen connected to a hand crank that power charged the screen to show our conversation questions. The dimensions of the box will have to fit comfortably on the eating tables in the student center. We have raspberry pi that will be connected to our hand crank that will also be connected to our LDS screen. Today we worked on putting the screen into our prototype box. We found a hand crank flightlighn that we will order and take apart. Our next step is programing and connecting the wires before we create a final box that we might make out of plexiglass. Next class we are going to power it with batteries.

Today we took a field trip down the road to the Center of Public Safety to visualize where our project would be places. We decided on putting the music box in the student center and we took measurements of the areas we thought it would be placed. After collecting measurments we spoke to the cordinator and he gave us some great tips and approved of our idea. It was difficult to decide how large we wanted to make the box. At the end of the trip we started to think of ways to decorate the outside of the box to make it look appealing.

NEW PROJECT

Two Person Manual Juke Box

Our new project is a one handled music box that has a circuit connecting to a MP3 player on the inside, that would create music. We will have a button on the opposite side that will actauly allow the music to start. The handle will chrage the inner batter for the MP3 player and the button will turn the music on and off. We well create holes so the music can come out.

Need:

Speaker

Cheap MP3 player with one song
