Podcast are witnessing an enormous surge in popularity, becoming sources of daily news and entertainment. They’ve become refreshing alternatives to mainstream media due to peoples exhaustion of screens, high production value, accessibility via the internet, and mobility. We listen to podcasts at the breakfast table, during our commutes, while working out, and at work, accessing the content with great ease. At a time where escaping from screens proves alarmingly difficult, podcasts offer a way for us to remain connected with cultural matters, political issues, or just simple stories that are of interest to us.

Students in this studio will bring the movement to Karam House, creating the first ever Karamcast. They will create short, high-quality, multi-layered audio piece podcasts, using narration, interviews, sound bites, and music to tell the necessary, engaging, original, and compelling stories of individuals of the Karam House community. The pieces - or “packages” - that students will engage in will be deeply researched, accurate and tightly scripted, and with first-rate production values. Finally, students will have the opportunity for the podcast to be heard on an open source streaming platform. Karamcast will be a part of the larger media community while still holding the stories and value of each community member within Karam Hous
