Once set in motion, an object will run forever. Or will it? Perpetual motion machine—it's fun to even say the phrase. For some people, perpetual motion machines hold the secret to everlasting free energy that will save the world. To them, it's a machine that is just beyond our grasp. If only we could find all the little answers to make it work. To the less idealistic, perpetual motion machines are impossible—they don't abide by the well-tested fundamental laws of physics.

In this studio, we will ask ourselves what a perpetual motion machine actually is. What are the fundamental laws of physics that prevent such machines to exist? How can we experiment nevertheless to look for opportunities to challenge the laws of physics as we know them? Students will work in teams with the mission of designing and building a perpetual motion machine, while rigorously studying and interpreting the laws of physics and their application. The process, while analytical, will amount in both a physical prototype of the proposed idea as well as a short paper addressing the findings on an academic level.

في هذا الاستوديو سوف نسأل أنفسنا ما هي آلة الحركة الدائمة؟ ما هي القوانين الأساسية للفيزياء التي تمنع وجود هذه الآلات؟ هل يمكننا تجربة صنع مثل هذه الآلات والبحث في إمكانية تحدي قوانين الفيزياء الأساسية التي نعرفها؟ سيعمل الطلاب في فرق لتصميم وبناء آلة الحركة الدائمة ، بعد دراسة دقيقة لقوانين الفيزياء الأساسية وتطبيقاتها المختلفة, سيقدم الطلاب ، بالإضافة إلى نموذج حقيقي للفكرة المقترحة ورسوماتها، بحثاً أكاديميا يتضمن النتائج التي سيحصلون عليها أثناء عملهم.
