Artwork credits: 36 Days of Type.

In studio demo exercise

Welcome to Lauana Kiʻi (Moving Canvas)

Course Description: This semester-long course addresses the evolving industry of art and the prevalence of new digital media by blending hands-on art-making techniques with industry-standard digital tools. In this studio, haumāna will engage with an iterative design process to develop a portfolio building up to the creation of "moving canvases" - motion graphic artworks that address issues of tradition and innovation.

As a studio, we will draw connections between traditional Hawaiian symbols deployed in kapa and tattoo, gestures of hula performance, and graphic design to inform digital expressions of culture and transformation.

Course is taught by Kumu Amanda OʻKeefe and Kumu Roxy Ragsdale.
