NuVu at MIT Design Studios Residential offers a unique summer opportunity for non-local motivated and talented high school students interested in innovation, design, and technology. This all-inclusive program is open to students between the ages of 14-18 or grades 9-12. We are offering two 2-week sessions: Session 1 (July 5-18, 2020) and Session 2 (July 19-Aug 1, 2020). Supervised by our experienced Residential Advising Staff, students stay at a conveniently located 4-star hotel in Cambridge adjacent to MIT’s campus. Tuition covers the cost of NuVu at MIT Design Studios, housing, meals, and well-curated and designed activities that will expose students to a variety of college campuses that can only be found in and around the Cambridge/Boston area.

All participants are required to have coverage from a U.S. based accident and health insurance provider. Short term health insurance is offered by many U.S. companies such as USI Affinity Travel Services. Short term health insurance is necessary to pay for any medical attention you might need. Please remember that, while “Travel Insurance” may assist a student with travel costs in the event of an emergency, many policies do not cover medical bills. International participants and others without this coverage will be billed for a short term accident/health policy. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
If you are an overseas organization interested in our Residential Program, we do offer discounts for groups larger than 5+ students. Please email us at email@example.com with your inquiries.
What is the age range of students attending NuVu?
NuVu’s Residential Program is offered to motivated and talented high school students (Ages 14-18, Grades 9-12, Gap Year)
What kind of student is a good fit for NuVu?
NuVu students are young people eager to build new things, use technology, and work in a team of makers. They are curious and ready to learn in a new way. Because of the diversity of personalities and interests of NuVu participants, almost all of our students will find their niche in one or more of the Studios.
How do you ensure that all students receive personal attention?
Personal attention is not the exception but the rule at NuVu. The staff-to-student ratio is approximately 1-to-6. NuVu’s team of Coaches and Summer Residential Advisors are directly responsible for addressing the needs of each student. In the studio, there are regular check-ins each day to ensure that the student is engaged, learning, and invested in their work.
Will there be lunch?
NuVu will provide a catered lunch daily. The cost of lunch is covered in the tuition fee. Your child may bring their own lunch, especially if they have any special food needs or preferences. There is no refrigerator or microwave available for use at MIT. Students are not allowed to leave NuVu during lunch unless permission is provided by their parents or guardian. Please note that students will not be supervised if they leave NuVu for lunch and are expected to return to studio by the appropriate hour.
How early may students arrive and how late may they stay?
Students may arrive as early as 8:30am. No advance notice is required. If students would like to work on their projects after regular studio hours, they may stay at NuVu until 4:00pm. There is no additional charge for this extra hour. This is optional work time and is unsupervised.
What is the recommended dress code at NuVu?
Students should dress in comfortable attire that can also withstand some hands-on work in the tool shop. Students should wear closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops). We recommend bringing an extra layer, it might get cool in our space due to the AC over the Summer.
Where is NuVu located?
NuVu shares a building with Central Square Theatre. The entrance to the building is set back from the main street and located in the building between CCTV and La Fabrica Central. Our address is:
450 Massachusetts Avenue
Cambridge, MA, 02139
Where is NuVu at MIT Design Studios located? How do I get there?
NuVu at MIT Design Studios is located in the heart of MIT's Campus at:
MIT Building 7, 4th Floor
77 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02139.
There are a number of bus connections including the #1 Bus. You can also take the MBTA red line to the Central, or Kendall/MIT stop and walk for approximately 10 minutes to MIT. It is easier to walk from the Central Square MBTA stop, but both stations are equidistant to MIT.
Is there parking?
On-street parking is very limited. It is recommended that public transportation is used in lieu of driving.
