Making it Home

Post-Flood Recovery

Dyani Robarge

In the immediate aftermath of the 2016 flood, many Baton Rouge residents found themselves living in their own gutted homes. In addition to building damage, the flood displaced a staggering number of personal belongings. This emergency situation caused privacy and comfort to become secondary to the basic needs of shelter, food and water.

Students in this studio will analyze problems faced by residents living in homes partially deconstructed by high waters. Their mission will be to develop creative solutions which improve the day-to-day lives of people still in recovery from the flood. Students will be designing and building physical constructions which creatively address these issues.
