Living Architecture

1 / 2

In this studio, haumana will envision and prototype responsive architectural experiences that promote well being by strengthening connections between people, technology, and environment. We will research designers such as Philip Beesley, who creates biophilic ‘living’ sculptures that breathe and undulate in response to the environment as well as the amorphic robotic work of Chico MacMurtrie who uses pneumatic actuation and organic geometries to animate performative installations. Material research in the form of lab exercises will further stretch our imagination of the future of activated structures.  As a studio, we will explore what it means for a structure to be alive, to be empathetic, and to have sensory inputs and actuated outputs.
